Real Life Weight Loss Story: Losing weight isn’t just about eating less or moving more—it’s one of the hardest physical and mental battles many people face. The path is full of frustration, self-doubt, and the constant temptation to give up. For 29-year-old Tushar Srivastava, the post-lockdown period marked a major turning point in his life. Like many others, he was left grappling with a sedentary lifestyle, mental burnout, and a rapidly deteriorating fitness level. Weighing 98 kg and struggling with low motivation, Tushar found himself trapped in a body he didn’t recognise and a mindset he couldn’t escape.
"I almost quit my fitness journey because there was no motivation left. I looked in the mirror every day and hated what I saw," says Tushar, recalling the emotional toll of his weight gain.
The Breaking Point
The shift came after years of inconsistency. Post-pandemic routines and work stress had taken over, making fitness a distant dream. But one day, tired of feeling helpless, he had a moment of reckoning.
"I decided I couldn’t look at myself like this anymore. I stopped looking for shortcuts and committed to a healthy lifestyle."
With no instant gratification in sight, he mentally prepared himself for the long haul. "I kept asking myself, 'How long will it take? Six months? A year?' But I knew one thing for sure—at the end, I will be changed," he shares.
The Inspiration
Tushar’s desire to stand out and be his best self was his biggest motivator. Watching fitness creators online became less about comparison and more about aspiration.
"If they can do it, why can’t I? That question pushed me. What started as a personal challenge turned into a lifestyle."
The journey became less about aesthetics and more about confidence, discipline, and mental transformation.
From 98 to 90 Kg: The Physical Transformation
Starting from 98 kg, Tushar now weighs 90 kg and aims to reach 85 kg—not to lose more weight, but to cut fat while preserving muscle mass.
"I’m focusing more on fat loss while maintaining my strength. My goal isn’t just to be lighter, but to be stronger."
His transformation took 60 days of committed effort, aided by a strategic calorie deficit, strength training, and cardio.
Challenges of a Corporate Lifestyle
Time was the biggest hurdle in working as a product designer. Meetings stretched unpredictably, and late mornings ruled out evening gym sessions.
"I had to start waking up at 5 AM and hit the gym by 5:30. It was hard initially, but now it’s just my routine."
Early mornings allowed him to reclaim control over his time and build consistency, which he believes is key to any transformation.
Diet and Exercise: A Balanced Approach
Tushar didn't believe in fancy diets. He calculated his maintenance calories and ate 300-400 calories less each day, focusing on high-protein meals with fibre.
"People think fat loss is all about cardio, but strength training is equally important. My weekly split included two days of cardio and abs and the rest for strength," he said. This sustainable mix helped him retain muscle and keep his metabolism strong.
The Setbacks
The journey wasn’t linear. Tushar faced injuries and hit frustrating plateaus that made him question his progress.
"There were times I had to stop for months. Just when things were getting better, something would pull me back."
But instead of giving up, he adapted. He tweaked his workouts, recalculated his calories, and prioritised recovery.
The Role of Discipline
Tushar emphasises that discipline—not motivation—was his biggest ally.
"Motivation is temporary. What helped me was discipline and reminding myself why I started."
He also swears by tracking visual progress. "I made videos to document my journey. Watching those clips helped me stay committed when I felt like quitting."
His Advice to Others
For those beginning their own transformation, Tushar has practical advice: "Don’t chase shortcuts or random trends you see online. Everyone’s body is different. Find what works for you and stick to it for 5-6 months without distraction."
He also urges people to stay off comparison traps: "Ignore social media timelines. Just like every plant grows at its own pace, so does everybody."
Life After the Transformation
The changes in Tushar’s life have gone far beyond the physical. "I feel lighter not just in body, but in mind. I’m more confident, focused, and energetic. My old clothes fit again, and I walk with pride."
More than just the weight, he has shed self-doubt and gained clarity. His story is a reminder that no transformation happens overnight, but every day of consistent effort brings you closer to becoming your best self.
"If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you’re capable of anything if you commit," he shares. From nearly quitting to inspiring others, Tushar’s journey is proof that true transformation is a mix of resilience, routine, and relentless self-belief.
