If you are down with the virus, and have some mild symptoms, there are a few easy ways you can let off the infection through natural remedies
There has been a huge surge in cases of COVID-19 across Southeast Asia, especially in densely populated cities like Singapore, Hong Kong, and Bangkok. In India too, states like Kerala, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu are recording the highest daily cases every day. While officials are monitoring the situation closely, it is important to take precautions to prevent coronavirus infection.
According to the latest figures, Kerala leads the count with around 70 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 44 and Tamil Nadu with 34 cases of the COVID-19 infection. Even Karnataka, Gujarat, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Sikkim have reported fresh numbers.
So, if you are down with the virus and have some mild symptoms—apart from isolating yourself and wearing a mask, there are a few easy ways you can let off the infection through natural remedies.
At-home care for COVID-19
Many people with COVID-19 get better with rest, fluids, and treatment for their symptoms. Medicine can be prescribed by the doctor to reduce fever or as a pain reliever.
Doctors say if you are at high risk of serious COVID-19 illness, you may be offered medicine to prevent mild illness from getting worse. Groups at higher risk are those who are 65 years and older, babies younger than six months, and those with certain medical conditions.
Sleep and Rest
It is important to sleep and take adequate rest with seven to eight hours of sleep, as it plays an important role in strengthening your immunity levels. Adequate sleep also helps your body’s natural defences work strongly to fight off viruses. And so, if your symptoms are mild, make sure to sleep your way to a faster recovery.
Drink lots of fluids
It is important to drink enough that your pee is a clear pale yellow in colour throughout the day. It is best to drink plain water as much as possible, rather than sugar- and preservative-laden soft drinks or juices. Also avoid excessive amounts of tea, coffee, and alcohol, as they can make you more dehydrated.
Rinse your nose
According to experts, saline rinse or nasal irrigation helps reduce the rate of developing a fever after a COVID-19 infection and shortens the duration of fever symptoms as well.
You can use it for self-care for respiratory infectious diseases also, which have similar symptoms as COVID-19.
Saltwater gargles
If you have mild coronavirus symptoms, make sure to gargle with salt and warm water, as it helps improve respiratory symptoms from coronavirus infection. Studies say gargling or flushing nasal passages with salt water also promotes the shedding of the virus and infected cells or possibly causes some inactivation of the infection.
Inhale camphor
According to Ayurveda, camphor is an expectorant that treats respiratory infections. Used as a natural inhaler, camphor releases chest congestion when you place 2–3 cubes in hot water and inhale the vapours.
How to protect yourself while caring for someone with COVID-19
If you are working as a carer for someone with COVID-19, avoid touching their fluids. Make sure to wash your hands properly after cleaning up waste like used tissues, vomit, stool, or urine. Also, make sure to continue all the actions that help prevent the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19, which include:
- Washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
- Not touching your face
- Wearing a face mask when you are in the same room as the person who is ill
- Cleaning the home from time to time.
You must also avoid cleaning the room where the person is isolating and set aside bedding, towels, and utensils for the sick person only to use. Avoid direct physical contact with the person who has COVID-19. Also, try to limit visitors until the person has recovered.
