Abhishek Sharma is 22, a student, and until recently, someone who felt more at home in oversized hoodies than in a gym. Today, he weighs a lean 68kg, down from 104kg. That is a whopping 36kg of body weight gone through sheer grit and guidance from his coach.
But this is not just another six-pack flex on Instagram. This is a story about bouncing back from school-day trauma and finally figuring out that confidence is not something you wear; it is something you earn.
“I was obese right from school,” Abhishek says. “It hit my self-confidence hard. I faced bullying, and at some point, I just got fed up with feeling like I was not in control of my own body.” For someone in their teens, passing through school corridors while dodging jabs about their size can take an emotional toll. Eventually, Abhishek decided to hit the gym.
The switch flipped when he realised something quite profound: “A fit body is a symbol of hard work and discipline. I wanted to be that person.” Not the guy puffing up stairs, but the guy lifting heavy weights and light spirits.
His coach, Sachin Kumar at Fittr, mapped out his plan of action. Two years. Countless meals logged. Calories were cut from 2,500 to 1,500 over time. Regular strength training and cardio.
The biggest challenge?
“I had to say no to spontaneous plans, to snacks after a football game, to stress-eating during exams,” he says. But he stayed determined, even when illness struck and knocked him out of the gym for 15 days.
“It messed with my head more than my body,” he admits. “But my coach reminded me: one setback does not erase all progress.”
The mental transformation was just as significant. “Earlier, I would shy away from things like sports, social settings, and even wearing certain clothes. Now I am confident, energetic, and most importantly, healthy.” Abhishek is not exaggerating when he says that fitness is something you have to live to truly understand. “Words do not do it justice.”
His advice for anyone staring at their own mountain of self-doubt?
“Set goals. Find a coach who knows what they are doing. Work hard. Trust the process.”
Today, Abhishek is not just lighter on the scales; he is lighter in spirit. The old him, the one who felt invisible or awkward, has been replaced by someone who radiates energy and assurance. He did not just lose weight; he gained his life back.
