Wellness, fitness and workouts are no longer confined to a singular treadmill or hitting the gym alone, or even running in the dark all by yourself. Working out has become collective. With the way we are moving towards workout communities, the sweat has now become more social than ever. Fitness is not just “me time” anymore, it has become “we time.” This collective ritual has made working out a shared experience. The war between CrossFit, Pilates, running, and strength training is over, it is about who you workout with. Because then, fitness is about showing up together for that one extra rep, one extra lap, one extra set.

Working out is now about a sense of belonging

Consistency along with community offers the best calorie-burning workout and more and more people are moving towards wellness clubs and lifestyle hubs where they come together with a shared goal in mind, to become the fittest versions of themselves.

Where is the shift coming from?

The shift is nothing new Especially after the COVID-19 times when our lives became extremely digital, moving together taps into something primal. It is a way of keeping ourselves fit, looking towards the future by peeking by the side. Working out together means shared goals, shared endorphins, shared breaths (or should we say breathlessness). All of this makes it much more than a workout. It is a collective escape that makes you forget about the world for a while.

The best part of collective workouts is moving with one intention. Even in silence the connection is there. You feel connected and you feel seen. And it doesn’t have to stop at the workout. It continues, the sense of belonging, where you make newer friends over a cup of coffee or grab a bit together. The resonance is powerful.
Now more and more places are promoting group classes to give their visitors a space where they can belong and find that sense of solidarity. So, maybe it’s time for you to lay off the weights for a while and go attend that yoga session group class you’ve been meaning to.
