While most of the time UTIs need a course of antibiotics, there are also a few natural remedies one can follow
Many times you may be feeling a burning and uncomfortable feeling while taking a leak. While peeing is a natural phenomenon, burning is not. According to experts, a urinary tract infection may be the reason why this would be happening. Doctors say it is a common ailment in women and men, and burning symptoms of UTI cause discomfort.
Studies say more than 40 per cent of women get a UTI infection at least once in their lifetime. Another 20 per cent will get twice. While most of the time UTIs need a course of antibiotics to get the infection out of the system, there are also a few natural remedies one can follow. A few of them are listed below:
Cranberry juice
Tangy and refreshing, cranberry juice is used as a natural treatment for preventing bladder and UTI infections. According to the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, unsweetened cranberries are packed with antioxidants that help make the urine more acidic and less friendly to bacteria like Escherichia coli.
Barley water
Barley water is not just a good source of soluble and insoluble fibre, vitamins, and essential minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, and antioxidants but also helps fight UTI infection as well as diabetes. This cooling beverage helps flush out toxins from your intestines and urinary tracts, cleansing the internal systems of the body.
According to experts, barley water is a diuretic, and so it triggers a group of sugars called beta-glucans that are present in the cell walls of barley.
Green juice
Green juice, made with spinach, basil, and cabbage leaves, is a great diuretic that you can consume in the morning to flush bacteria out of the bladder. It is also loaded with antioxidants that reduce inflammation and boost immunity, which is why it is an excellent drink for treating UTIs.
Lemon and honey water
Both lemon and honey are immensely beneficial when it comes to treating UTIs. Loaded with essential nutrients like vitamin C, phosphorus, calcium, and magnesium, lemon and honey water help clear toxins, boost the system, and also shield the body against any more infections.
Honey is a powerhouse of antioxidants like flavonoids and phenolic compounds that help in regulating gastric health as well.
Watermelon and orange juice
Both watermelon and orange juice—preferably homemade—contain vitamins and minerals that help to boost your immunity levels. It also has a natural diuretic effect that can help to flush out harmful bacteria that cause UTI infection.
Apple cider vinegar
Another best way to get rid of the burning sensation while urinating is by adding apple cider vinegar to a glass of water and drinking it every morning. It makes the urine more acidic, giving relief from the infection.
