For Gurishq Kaur, who was morbidly obese, weight loss was a distant dream that she made into a reality. For the young woman, who relocated to Canada recently, life had not been a bed of roses, owing to her weight.
However, consistent efforts, and more importantly, showing up every single day helped her achieve what she desired – that too with the help of simple exercise. Gurishq said she neither followed any crash diets or fad diets nor did she do any intense fitness regimes – but did manage to shed 40 kilograms in a year.
How did Gurishq lose 40 kilos?
Kaur – super active on social media – shared that her transformation from size 3XL to a medium in under a year was about hitting the right points. “The most asked question I get is, 'How did you lose so much weight suddenly?' But here’s the truth: it wasn’t sudden. It had been eight months of showing up, making better choices, and trusting the process,” she said in a video shared on Instagram.
While Gurishq began her transformation with a daily 20-minute walk, she eventually began running. Slowly, within two months, she started running 20 km daily. However, she then alternated between running and walking as well. “There’s something about stepping out in the sun and breathing fresh air that keeps me coming back,” she said.
Gurishq said she started with shorter distances but worked up to running a minimum of 10 kilometres daily. “I aim for a minimum of 10 km, and on good days, I push it to 15, 18 or even 20 km,” she revealed. Calling running to be therapeutic – she then added strength training to her routine to experiment with variety – around two to three times a week.
What does Gurishq eat in a day?
Not believing in fad diets, Kaur did not starve herself but rather ensured she ate a well-balanced and nutritious diet. She focused on what foods were best for her body – giving her the required nutrition and energy. Apart from eating her three meals, whenever Gurishq felt hungry in between, she would munch on some baby carrots and cream cheese.
For breakfast, Gurishq eats two sourdough toasts along with some salad and scrambled tofu – a high-protein and high-fibre breakfast to keep her energisedthroughout the day. For lunch, she would eat a hearty salad bowl topped with walnuts and vegan meat burger patties.
