A social media influencer said she was left with a seven-year sinus infection after her boyfriend farted in her face. Even though she broke up with him later, Christine Connell suffered immensely from a stuffy nose and pain in her face for almost a decade later.
According to Connie, who could trace her symptoms back to a fateful night spent in a hotel room, she had to undergo surgery when her boyfriend farted when he was changing in front of her. The content creator says since that day she has been battling sinus infections. However, she did not think to connect her health issues to the gassy incident until doctors took a culture sample from her nose.
Sinus infection is an inflammation of the tissues in your sinuses that causes facial pain, a stuffy or runny nose, and sometimes a fever and other symptoms. It’s usually caused by the common cold, but other viruses, bacteria, fungi, and allergies can also cause sinusitis.
"I realised that my ex-boyfriend got the best possible breakup revenge that anyone could ever get. I've had a persistent sinus infection ever since he and I stayed in a hotel one night after I had surgery, and he farted terribly,” she told her followers on TikTok.
Christine said she had a barrage of tests and scans to try to get to the bottom of what was happening to her. However, her doctors - including four ear, nose, and throat specialists - seemed unable to figure out the cause of her infection. Later, her test results showed she suffered from an E. coli infection.
Escherichia coli, most often referred to as E. coli, is a group of bacteria that normally lives in the gut without causing harm. However, some strains can make people sick, causing gut and urinary tract infections. According to doctors, finding E. coli in the sinuses is rare but not impossible, especially in immunocompromised patients or those following trauma or poor hygiene.

  • Nasal polyps
  • Deviated septum, which is a line of tissue that divides your nose
  • A weakened immune system, which can be due to many kinds of illnesses
